July was a busy month at HBE – two events in the Boston area, and in DC with LouAnn Lofton and Tom Gardner of the Motley Fool (“Warren Buffet Invests Like A Girl”), Josh Foer (“Moonwalking With Einstein”) and Joe Palca (“Annoying”). August was much quieter – family vacation time at the beach, and planning for our event on September 12 with Dr. Paul Farmer. The fall will be busy, so stay tuned for more information on our events.   […]

Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour

Two years ago, we met Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour when she was a keynote speaker at the 2009 Executive Women in Goverment Summit and she wowed the audience with her energy, enthusiasm and  accomplishments.  Vernice has since become a good friend and supporter of HBE, helping us find a corporate sponsor for our first “Author Meet & Greet” at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Michael Sandel in the NY Times

In the fall of 2009, when “JUSTICE: What’s the Right Thing to Do” was first published, we had the opportunity to do four author events with Michael Sandel.   Each event was thought provoking and generated lots of lively discussion among those in attendance. While his classes at Harvard with 1,000 undergraduates in rapt attention are legendary, it was very interesting to read about Prof. Sandel’s successes in Asia — see  Tom Friedman’s Op-Ed in the New York Times.  Wish there was more interest […]

Ted Danson and OCEANA

As summer approaches, our thoughts turn to sun, sand and the beach. But, our recent author event with Ted Danson (yes, that Ted Danson of “Cheers”, “Becker” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and his first book “Oceana” will make us think about the the state of the oceans, and the efforts necessary to preserve them.  For the past 25 years, Ted Danson’s passion has been the preservation of the oceans, highlighting the problems of overfishing, acidification, destruction of habitats that keep the cycle […]
