Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour

Two years ago, we met Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour when she was a keynote speaker at the 2009 Executive Women in Goverment Summit and she wowed the audience with her energy, enthusiasm and  accomplishments.  Vernice has since become a good friend and supporter of HBE, helping us find a corporate sponsor for our first “Author Meet & Greet” at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. We thought she should write a book about her journey – the first female African-American on Nashville’s […]

Michael Sandel in the NY Times

Kim Ricketts

Kim Ricketts 1957-2011 A light went out this week in the publishing world. My dear friend, colleague, book seller extraordinaire Kim Ricketts has passed away.  We met in this business when introduced by the wonderful London King of Random House. The year was probably 2003 and she was getting started with her corporate clients and I was under way with my work with the USGOV..  We clicked instantly; we had a lot in common – a life long love of books […]

Perry’s Interview in The Hill

Details key when looking to host memorable event by Morgan Spencer Perry Pidgeon Hooks, president and co-founder of Hooks Book Events, operates what she calls a “book and author idea business.” Thought leaders, Pulitzer Prize winners and Nobel Laureate economists are invited to speak on relevant issues and formulate fresh thinking among government problem solvers. “I have kind of this patriotic, big heart for these guys that everybody’s looking at for the answers, and if we can get some new […]
